Dan Gaub – Network Marketing, Investing

Personal

  • Name: Dan Gaub (46) http://www.dangaub.com/

  • Education: High School plus numerous college courses

  • Family: Wife Dawndee, sons Jourdan (19), Joshua (17)

  • Business: Investor, Networker, Entrepreneur

  • Hobbies: Motorcycles, Golf, Collecting

  • Home church: Stone Church in Yakima

How it started: Dan's father was a traveling evangelist and Dan and his brother and sister grew up on the road and were home schooled through High School. Dan helped with the ministry and for 20 years played in a band that reached many people for the Kingdom. They often stayed in the homes of wealthy people. He noticed that million dollar homes always had a library and those people were interested in being educated. When they would stay in average homes the library was usually replaced by a room with a big screen TV. As he listened to the stories of millionaires he realized they all had a thirst for knowledge and the freedom to pursue new ideas. Many had a fascination with discerning the "next big thing." At the age of 16 Dan made it his goal to pursue the model he had seen many times in those homes. He overcame a reading disability, became an avid reader, because he knew that the knowledge he was looking for was in those libraries. He is working on becoming a writer as well.

Dan's father was in Amway three different times. It helped Dan realize that, even though his Father was a talented motivational speaker, he was struggling to make it work. Dan liked the idea of Networking so he spent 5 years researching over 60 direct sales companies. After nearly giving up, he discovered Market America through a friend. By 2000 he and Dawndee had worked themselves out of debt and had $90K in the bank. By seeking out wise counsel from millionaires (as opposed to salaried investment advisors), they turned that 90K and additional profits from Market America into millions. They hit an IPO just right in one of their first investments and hit another high multiplier soon after that. They have since diversified in a variety of investments and real estate. He continues to value financial mentors.

Personal Passion: Dan has two passions: 1) Jesus, and 2) the concept of family - not just his immediate family but the concept of being relationally connected or networked into a discipleship process. His vision for discipleship goes beyond spiritual things to include every aspect of life (vocational, financial, emotional, etc.)

Personal Benefit: Dan enjoys being able to help others as opportunities arise. He loves seeing people mentored until they excel in what God has called them to do.

Value to others: Dan wasn't cut out for a 9-5 job. His upbringing was less structured than most because of all the traveling. His father is a motivational speaker and although Dan is packaged in a calmer personality, he loves to bring excitement and the enthusiasm of new possibilities to others. He resists the pace of the average person; loving both the peaks and the valleys more than the status quo of the average wage earner.

Business Potential (upside): Direct sales, network marketing, and mentoring managers is a forum for Dan to help people reach their potential. He loves the interchange of face-to-face meetings and the dynamics of meeting new people. Network marketing and Christian discipleship are both forums to change people. You can change the world by changing 10 people. There is a Biblical multiplication effect when two disciples each make two more... Spiritual and financial grandchildren are the real fruit of discipleship in Christianity and business.

Complexities, failures (downside): Network marketing is an emotional roller coaster with highs and lows. Market America teaches a 2 to 3 year plan to help people realistically "count the cost" of involvement. Offering people opportunities requires a willingness to invest emotionally in people and it can be both tiring and rewarding at the same time.

Vision for the Kingdom: Dan's vision for the Kingdom is helping others connect with their vision. He was instrumental in helping Steve Brown get "The Network" started. He helped with the financing and the organization of the ministry. More recently he helped start a culinary school for people just released from prison. Dan's real vision is to tap the network of God's people and the opportunities they are called to pursue in both ministry and business.

Impact from Releasing Kings: Dan read Releasing Kings For Ministry in the Marketplace twice. The book expanded his understanding of the Kingdom in several areas and helped him put often-quoted verses in the larger context of their true meaning.

Personal Note: I (John) met Dan this summer and asked him to show me his network marketing business. My belief, right or wrong was, that legitimate Christians in a legitimate expression of this field were hard to find. After meeting him and chatting with others who know him I found out Dan is the real thing. His business is also real and Sue and I decided to participate in it as well. (www.johnsue.unfranchise.com). I personally wanted to become much more entrepreneurial and develop the marketing skills under his mentoring. I'm beginning to see the concept of discipleship "cross over" into the marketplace. A healthy concept of sales is really evangelism... something I've grown away from in my church experience and long to return to.
