Dan Miller - Life Coaching

Dan and Joanne

Personal

  • Name: Dan Miller, eagle5747@gmail.com
  • Education: MS in Clinical Psychology
  • FamilyWife Joanne, 3 grown children, 6 grandkids
  • Business: Author and Life Coach, www.48days.com
  • Hobbies: Old cars

How it started: Dan was raised with four other siblings on a diary farm in Ohio. His father was a bi-vocational (unpaid) pastor in a small Mennonite church. Milking cows and raising hay didn’t capture Dan’s heart and he longed to expand his boundaries outside the confines of his small church and town. Although he was saved and never departed from his spiritual heritage, he decided education was his ticket to the rest of the world and out of the rigid culture.

Education did give Dan a broader perspective on his faith and work. His degree in Clinical Psychology led to psychotherapy. From there he was naturally drawn to helping people navigate their own transitions into a purpose-filled life. Dan used his education and job to coach people toward their calling. His focal point became helping other people find purpose in their daily work. His first book, 48 Days To the Work You Love was an outgrowth of a 1996 Sunday School class handout that became popular. In 2000 he put the material in a three-ring binder and it returned two million dollars in sales. From there he wrote versions of a hardbound book for both secular and Christian readers and developed many other related products now available on his web site. No More Mondays is his latest book with more of an entrepreneurial theme.

Personal Passion: Dan found a theme in the lives of those he talked to; people long to make a difference in the world and give their life meaning beyond the mundane aspects of living paycheck to paycheck. Dan has used his message to wean people away from the idea that responding to their personal call to ministry means giving up their job and financial health for “full-time” ministry in a church.

Personal Benefit: The difference Dan gets to see in changed lives is both gratifying and affirming. His books and materials are popular enough that he receives unsolicited testimonials wherever he goes.

Value to others: 70-80% of Americans say they would change jobs if they could. They haven’t looked at their situation in the light of connecting their purpose and vocation. When choosing a career many simply take the best job available with no thought given to what they would really enjoy doing. In fact, many people assume doing what they enjoy would never pay the bills – In fact, “working” out of your heart’s desire is the quickest path to financial prosperity. Dan helps people see the many clues to purpose that exist in their own life.

He’s also good at rescuing business work-aholics; those that spend 60-80 hours a week in work they love who are borrowing success from other areas of their life (like family and marriage).

Business Potential (upside): Dan enjoys writing and marketing his materials. He has seven revenue streams with one employee. He hears a steady steam of people asking this question, “I want to do what you’re doing.” As a result, a coaching network of affiliates has been formed (www.212ºConnection.com). Dan is helping other help people through their own coaching businesses. His ability to leverage intellectual expertise through affiliate coaching has grown so fast that he’s had to reorganize and hire a CEO. There are presently 180 coaches and his goal is have 1000, then 5000. He keeps them current with quarterly conferences, national conventions, telephone conferences, web blogs, and newsletters.

Complexities, failures (downside): The growth of interest in Dan’s approach to coaching has required new ways of delegation and new contractual relationships via his affiliates. Dan has chosen to avoid hiring staff and he approaches each problem with an immediate fix. Instead of waiting he starts a solution and refines it along the way. He doesn’t wait until everything is clear. “Faith” requires us to move before we have things all figured out.

Vision for the Kingdom: Dan has a great opportunity and a large responsibility in the sense that others look to him for leadership. Dan’s primary Kingdom thrust is to mentor people in the direction of their personal calling. Other than providing tools, he never starts with a preconception of where an individual’s heart might take them. Everyone is uniquely created, gifted and called… Dan just helps people mine the purpose behind the package. His coaching style is very personalized.

The result isn’t just theoretical. When people find their purpose they gravitate toward financial rewards that exceed their prior efforts in a job serving someone else’s vision.

Impact from Releasing Kings and Desire to Destiny: Dan loved the value that Releasing Kings gives to those called to the marketplace. Kings are as valuable as Priests in God’s plan.
