How
it started: In 1970, Everett started an ice cream business.
He decided to go to HVAC school in the off season to learn to work on
his equipment. He liked it so well he went into the air conditioning
and heating business. He moved from Ohio to Florida in 1972 and worked
as a technician, service manager and then general manager of a firm in
Tampa. In 1983, he started his own business that was very successful
until 1987 when he lost everything going through a divorce. Alone in a
motel room, drunk and high on marijuana, he called out to the Lord, “If
you are for real I need you!” The Lord met him where he was and
radically changed his life. After accepting the Lord, Everett found a
church in Lakeland, Fl. It was there four years later, in the single’s
ministry, he met Mary, his wife. They were both leaders in the single’s
ministry. They both were on the healing team and the prophetic team of
the church. They were married on February 14, 1992. The Lord had told
Everett that he was to start another business of his own but the time
was not right now. Everett worked for other A/C companies for 5 years.
In March of 1997, he started Action Heating & Cooling, Inc. Everett’s
office was in the dining room of the their small apartment. The
business was prosperous and in 2000 he paid off a $10,000 IRS bill that
had been hanging over him since his divorce. That same year he and Mary
bought a house. And for their anniversary he bought Mary a 2000 Lincoln
LS.
By 2002, Everett could no
longer handle the all day service work and all night paper work. Mary
stepped in to help answer the phones and to do the paper work. The
business has continued to grow and soon the office, that was in a
bedroom of their home, was not sufficient to run a business. In March
of 2004, Everett was offered a chance to buy a commercial building by a
friend who was retiring from the A/C business. To Everett this was an
answer to prayer! But at this same time, Mary was facing some health
issues and had just been given a report that a CAT scan of her lungs
showed some tissue that they were concern about (words like TB and
cancer had been spoken) plus there were three nodules in her right
lung. Mary was a non-smoker all her life and chest x-rays of her lungs
had never shown anything before. Naturally shocked and upset and still
plagued with a chronic cough and exhaustion, she was stressed to the
maximum. She was still helping to run the business and also helping her
church by leading a team of women to sew draperies for their new church
building. Mary was prayed for by a guest speaker at their church who
said that the Lord said, “that this thing was not unto death”.
Walking by faith she wore in
her clothing the scripture “I will live and not die and declare the
works of the Lord”. As the weeks passed and more CAT scans showed no
change. She couldn’t see a lung specialist until June. While still
pressing on through her health issues, she and Everett were still at
odds over buying the business property. Mary was concerned that they
could not afford the building. Everett was pressing that they would
lose the building if they didn’t act soon. They sought their pastor’s
counsel. She recommended that they apply for the loan but defer the
decision to go through with the deal until they were in unity. Mary was
relieved believing it would be impossible for them to be approved for
the loan. Meantime, Everett still pushing for expansion, hired a
technician. Mary was stressed even more concerning how they would be
able to pay him.
The next afternoon, she came
home to find Everett with a big smile on his face. They had been
approved for the loan for the building! To her utter dismay she sat
listening to Everett go on and on about what all they can do with this
expanded business. All the while inside she was saying, “I’m not
signing anything.” As usual God had everything under control, because
the worship music that had been playing in the background stopped and
the evangelist was speaking about trusting God and getting out of the
boat and walking on water. Still not conceding, Mary withdrew to the
bedroom and closed the door determined to hear from God herself. She
had been praying for weeks and had not heard Him speak. She had to have
a personal word from Him for too much was at stake. After hours of
prayer and crying her heart out with no answer she started to bed. As
soon as her head touched the pillow the Lord began to speak. “Trust Me,
I have your best interest in mind. All to often things come and go and
people wish they had taken the chance. Trust Me to know the plans I
have for you are good and not bad….Accept Everett and tell him you are
behind him and watch him thrive!” The next morning Mary told Everett
what the Lord had said. In unity they proceeded with the purchasing
process. The Lord had spoken to Everett, “You have been faithful in
little and I will give you much”. One day while standing on the
property, the Lord told Everett “to possess the land”. Everett
obediently walked the property claiming it to advance the Kingdom of
God. In May of 2004, they closed on the purchase of the building. They
also hired a receptionist and another technician. The technician of
course needed a truck in order to work. S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G them even
more!
Personal Passion: Everett’s pastor once told him “he was a
signs and wonders guy”. He has an anointing to heal the sick not only
in their body but inner healing for their souls. Mary carries a similar
anointing as she ministers in prophet prayer counseling. They both have
a heart to restore people to wholeness and to set the captives free.
They also believe they will see people raised from the dead! Everett’s
burden also is to “prepare the market place for revival” and to release
the funds for the Kingdom of God. He and Mary have a passion for Native
American Indians and were a part of a two year initiative to “prayer
walk” the Smokey Mountain region for the Cherokee Nation.
Personal Benefit: Everett & Mary see their business as a
ministry platform and have seen people saved, filled with the Holy
Spirit, and healed in their homes during a service call. They pray
every morning at the business before beginning the first job of the day
asking for divine appoints in order to minister. Their church is
organizing home groups around the passion of their people and Everett
has an opportunity to reach out to business men inside his church and
out in the community as Kingdom Business Network.
Value
to others: Everett’s business is called to bring integrity to
the marketplace. They service their customers honestly, doing what they
say they will do and by showing up on time for their appointments.
There are no high-pressure sales. They sale their customers what is
best for their individual needs. With this attitude, the customer’s
confidence is built to the point that they are open to receive ministry.
Business Potential (upside): In the last year the Lord has
accelerated the prosperity of Action Heating & Cooling, Inc. One of
Everett’s goals is to buy other businesses to multiply his marketplace
presence and ministry. He is currently praying with a friend in another
business concerning a way to network other subcontractors.
Complexities, failures (downside): Action is in a growth
period right now which also means the cash flow has to be monitored
carefully to avoid over spending. But somehow when the checkbook looks
depleted, money comes in just in time!
Vision for the Kingdom: One of Everett’s life messages is for
people who are stressed out over their business and ready to quit. Last
year at 60 years old, he was ready to quit. But the Lord saw him
through to the birthing of the expansion of their business not
retirement. He no longer struggles with wanting to quit work to be in
ministry because he now sees he is exacting where God has called him—in
the marketplace. His vision is to train, equip, and release Christian
Business and bring revival to the marketplace.
Mary has a vision for
counseling and women’s ministry and is carrying a burden to write
several books. One she will co-author with her husband “There IS Life
After Divorce”.
Impact from Releasing Kings: After surviving four hurricanes
in Florida this year, Everett felt “on hold”. There was a climate of
spiritual heaviness of grief and oppression through out the state. The
spiritual warefare was intense. He picked up Releasing Kings one day
and read the chapter on Fear-Based Eschatology and the Lord spoke to him
the world was getting better and better instead of worse. His heart was
ministered to, a boldness set in, and he felt the freedom to pray for
God’s blessing and the confidence to make a difference in the Kingdom of
God.
