In a very real sense the United States was founded on the concept of Releasing Kings. That release is directly related to Yankee ingenuity - our propensity for being creative, entrepreneurial and prosperous. Jesus quoted Isaiah to make the same point in defining the goal of His ministry. "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; Luke 4:18 NKJV Listen to the way Rick Tedeschi put it in My Father's Promise. Once long ago a group of men took this daring road, risking fortune and life for the freedom of their families and their land. They founded a nation with the inherent belief that our Lord desired liberty above control. Their banner-cry still inspires us today. We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness-That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. (From the Declaration of Independence) Contrasting Kingdoms - The phrase, "our Lord desired liberty above control" struck me. God has carried that value for us since the garden. The Kingdom of darkness is quite different. Consider the contrasts: Leadership Satan works through a hierarchy of control complete with abusive authority, manipulation, or additive enslavement. Leaders yield their own freedom to gain authority over others; compromise to climb the ladder. God works through heart's desires and the Holy Spirit. The result is that grass roots movements start because people everywhere hear the same voice at the same time their leaders do. The Kingdom of light tends to be a flat organization because the goal is to make Christ the head. Leaders have a profound impact because they resonate with what the Holy Spirit is already telling us. Service Serving the Kingdom of darkness degenerates to ever greater levels of deception and enslavement. Freedom is lost in an attempt to gain it. The Kingdom of light defines greatness as being "servant of all." Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matt 20:25-28 NIV Service in God's Kingdom comes from a different perspective however. We can and do lay our lives down for others "but" we do so without leaving the desires of our own heart - like Jesus. We love to set captives free. We serve others from a position of being seated in heavenly places. We serve others by pulling them up to a new level... we serve them by pulling them into their own heart's desires and helping them find their own expression of success in the Kingdom. We serve by setting the captives free into the Kingdom of Light to possess their inheritance... We're Releasing Kings! ...joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves... Col 1:11-13 NIV In a very real way, our dreams come true as we help others to realize theirs. Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
