Market values have been cut in value by nearly half around the world. Banks have failed and government interventions haven't been the solution so far. As of this writing the downturn is still in progress and comparisons are being made to the depression in the 30's. People have been touched too. If you own a home or have investments, a pension, IRA, or savings in mutual funds those assets may be down by about half as well. The Sky is Falling - I recently heard a knowledgeable and well-meaning brother describe the collapse of the US dollar as a currency. It was supposed to happen in the next several months. He was really prophesying the will of the enemy for our nation. The plan is real - it just doesn't originate from God. If you listen for them, there have always been a steady stream of conspiracy theorists predicting the end of happiness for all of mankind. Even in the church we used to emphasize our defeat (Armageddon) and escape (rapture) from this world to a better one. That whole stream causes believers to distance themselves from the Kingdom in fear. Here is God's counsel for times of shaking. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Josh 1:9 NIV The Benefits behind the Shaking - I'm not suggesting God is behind the scenes perpetrating a world wide economic melt down. I personally believe that the enemy is a more likely candidate. Regardless of the cause, Jesus is the author of every resurrection. Here is a more Godly perspective for the marketplace. Down turns are normal - Economies growth and contract in healthy cycles. In the US we've tried to artificially protect our economy from it's natural rest cycles so that when is does contract it's much more painful. We all need to be reminded occasionally that being overextended financially is dangerous. Shaking is healthy - Whole societies drift away from the reality of God. In this current cycle over the last month, I haven't heard a single politician suggest that prayer might be a good idea. The concept that government and presidential candidates can solve our problems apart from God is basically flawed. God can solve problems and He works through Kings that acknowledge Him in the political realm to do it. Leaving Jesus out of the equation is the real danger. Let the shaking continue until we give God the glory. Storms always prove foundations; seeds always grow in good soil; collapses expose corruption; pruning precedes fruit. Opportunities galore - Warren Buffet is buying stock right now. Kings are surrounded by new open doors every time we have a shake-up. They are present now more than ever if your theology allows you to look for them. The glass is half full - actually our cup is running over. The King of kings and the Lord of lords is the answer to this problem. Which translates to; "You are the answer to this problem." We are the Joseph's and Daniel's and David's of our generation. How it all ends - We bring Armageddon to the enemy. He quakes in fear just before being cast into pit along with all his helpers. We all throw a large party in celebration. Yes, there is a conspiracy! Spirit-filled believers are planning to spoil the enemy completely... and you are invited to join in. What should we do? - It is a time to pray for the nations and intercede for great victories. When bad things happen it's a season for good men and women to rise up and show the wisdom and power and provision of God. The world is looking for over comers. Now is the hour to rise above anxiety and do exploits. Here's how your epitaph should read when you're done. Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed great exploits. He struck down two of Moab's best men. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 21 And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club.
