This Week's Must Reading -
Kent
Humphries wrote a great article in his newsletter and gave me
permission to share it with you.
God Has Moved is about the transition of ministry into the
marketplace.
Beyond My Needs
According to your Faith - I recently
read a story about a TV station that staged a man on a busy downtown
sidewalk with a sign that read "free money." They gave him a sizable
amount of cash with the goal of filming the response of passersby. He
couldn't give away a cent; people politely turned him down, ignored him,
and often walked out of their way to avoid eye contact. Why? No one
believed there was any such thing as free money. They assumed it had to
be a gimmick that wasn't in their best interest.
As I read the
story the Lord spoke to me, "That's similar to the way my people
respond to the Holy Spirit. There is grace to create wealth right
now, and a first fruits are beginning to break through and accept my
offer. People struggle accepting that I want to prosper them beyond
their needs They struggle to believe it's possible and lack
understanding on how to position themselves to receive."
So... let's talk
about how to move beyond our needs.
Needs vs. Wants - A belief that God
supplies all our needs is Biblical and healthy. Here are a few verses we
use to make that point.
But my God shall supply all
your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.Phil 4:19
KJV
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Ps 23:1 NIV
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all
things at all times, having all that you need... 2 Cor 9:8 NIV
The corollary to
believing that God supplies all our needs is that He is not committed to
providing all our wants. I want to suggest that belief is largely false.
The reason God supplies all our needs is so that our focus can be on
something other than ourselves, my money, my problems, and "me."
God is looking for people that can "seek the Kingdom first." If problems
with relationships, health, or finances are consuming all of our
attention, we won't have time or energy to bless the nations or focus on
anything but self. Does God want to go beyond our needs so that our cup
runs over? Absolutely! Ministry is all about exporting blessing to
others from a position of abundance in health, finances, revelation,
anointing, power, leadership, and courage. We're called to bless the
nations and God is not sending us out empty handed.
Yes, but how - When we're ready to
move our personal beliefs from needs to abundance, the next step is
sowing... abundantly, consistently, persistently, and wisely.
Now this I say, he who sows
sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will
also reap bountifully. 2 Cor 9:6 NASU
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth,
that shall he also reap... And let us not be weary in well
doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Gal
6:7-9
The mistake we've
made with sowing is that we've assumed that if we give away money, God
will bless us financially. This is a half-truth. If you give away all
your money, you'll be guaranteed to be broke! Sowing finances in a way
that causes multiplication does enable generosity after we increase. The
principle is that we plant our seed and give out of the harvest. Many
Christians have foolishly given away their seed and now have nothing to
sow or give. That's just bad stewardship. Here's what the Bible really
says - sow your seed and reap a harvest so that your store of seed
increases to "rich." Then give out of your increase and become
significantly generous on every occasion that arises.
PS - keeping sowing
and multiplying in the meantime.
Now he who supplies seed to
the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your
store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11
You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on
every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in
thanksgiving to God. 2 Cor 9:10-11 NIV
Sowing consistently - Sowing to
multiply finances and receive wealth is a Biblical concept most
Christian know nothing about. It's much easier to put money in the
offering plate and live from paycheck to paycheck. It satisfies a level
of false humility and makes us feel self righteous. "Sowing" means that
you're going take the initiative and do the work of finding good
investments or starting a business to sell a product or service. You're
taking the responsibility to create something of value for others and
position yourself to receive a return on your time or money.
Here's the challenge.
Not all of our sowing will work. Most of us have a sense of becoming
more entrepreneurial, but we've underestimated the effort required to
make it happen. Let's say you step out and try to do something to
multiply your finances and position yourself in the will of God to
receive wealth. Some fraction of the time you will end up with a failure
on your hands that costs you time, money and emotional energy. God does
promise to bless us as we sow; He doesn't promise a home run every time
we pick up the bat! No one has ever multiplied finances or received
their inheritance in terms of wealth and ministry without a fight.
Translation - you have to pick yourself up after a set back, make a wise
adjustment to your plan, and try again... however many times it takes.
It's a process that goes on throughout our lives at different levels.
Think of it as the adventure associated with inheriting our land.
Motivated by a dream - Where does
the tenacity to resurrect after a failure come from? Quite simply, we
have to enjoy the process. A few successes along the way really helps
too. We have to invest our selves, our time, and our money in our dream
in order to find the motivation to stick with it for the long haul. That
means we have a passion and a dream. Without a personal dream
we're just a servant doing the minimum out of obedience. With a dream
we're doing the maximum out of personal initiative. That's the
difference between friends and servants. Both go to heaven - one bears
fruit, and the other works to meet his needs... for money, acceptance,
love, and salvation.
I no longer call you
servants, because a servant does not know his master's business.
Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned
from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me,
but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit — fruit that
will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my
name. John 15:15-16 NIV
Example - When we change our beliefs
from needs to abundance, our actions change toward a dream that will
produce abundance instead of just meeting needs. We start sowing! I
received an email while writing this newsletter. Take a peek.
After hearing
Harold Eberle minister at our local church, I went to the lobby to
purchase some of his materials. The Releasing Kings book was as if
it was screaming at me to "pick me, pick me". I completed the book
last year and God has reignited the dream and passion to open
several Retail stores. As of today, I'm halfway finished with
Desire to Destiny! I'm a Marketplace King!!!! Can't wait for the
Desire to Destiny website to be complete. Bless you!
