Harold's new book -
About 5 years ago Harold gave a draft of Who Is God to me for
review. I was so impacted by what I read, we co-authored Releasing
Kings and summarized the message in chapter 7. Harold has just
published Who is God
in a hard bound book which I highly recommend. It provides the
theological foundation for personal initiative in Marketplace Ministry.
Very insightful and easy to read.
The Fear Bubble
is About to Burst
For God did not give us a
spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and
of self-discipline. 2 Tim 1:6-7 NIV
We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is
from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
1 Cor 2:12 NIV
Turning the Corner - We usually
get predictions about what God will do in the next year right after
Christmas. It's a time to reflect on the past year and articulate what
God is emphasizing in the coming year. Most of the context of these
prophetic declarations is centered around what God will do. It's a
relevant topic and we should flow with the theme of the Holy Spirit in
the hour we live... revival, marketplace ministry, learning to multiply,
etc. These are all themes we could emphasize for 2009.
If we view God as
sovereignly directing all the traffic then we are cast in the concrete
of waiting for his intervention. The reality is that God does have a
direction and he will intervene in some areas of His choosing. However,
He's primarily committed to moving through you and I via our free will
the power that is already at work within us to establish His Kingdom on
earth. The other half of this issue is what you and I have decide to do!
That's where the fear / courage dynamic plays a big role; whether we're
willing to step into the fray and make a difference or hold back in
timidity and wait on God.
Now to him who is able to do
immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his
power that is at work within us... Eph 3:20 NIV
Change the Channel - The news sells
TV time and newspapers based on a fear dynamic of publicizing bad news.
You can get a contagious dose of fear everyday through the media. One of
the enemy's chief tactics is to blanket Christians with a spirit of fear
that will immobilize personal initiative. Your dream, your creativity,
your ability to multiply finances and free yourself for ministry is the
primary means God is using to build the Kingdom. He could do it all
Himself. He's just chosen not to... He's chosen you.
There are three ways
you can throw timidity off your life and take on the nature of the Lion
of the tribe of Judah. Replace fear with a spirit of power, of love, and
of self-discipline. Let's discuss each.
A Spirit of Power - One of the most
encouraging experiences is to lay hands on a sick person and see your
prayer have an immediate impact. We really do carry the power of God in
our prophetic words and through our actions. God not only uses what we
say and do, He magnifies it with His touch. We can offer a simple prayer
for healing or encourage to another person and that's good... but we
always watch for what the Lord does through our words and actions to
multiply the outcome. I expect to see some kind of manifestation in
terms of results. Not because I'm such a genius or have such great
faith. It's because results just happen so often. When I see sick or
discouraged people, I know there is something inside me that will change
their situation and I'm not afraid to jump in. The Holy Spirit works
through us in power to bless people, multiply finances, and convert
money into missions. It's a fun dynamic. There's nothing more personally
satisfying in this life than to cooperate with God to bless people and
build the Kingdom.
A Spirit of Love - The second
experience that continually shakes us is the realization that all
ministry is a byproduct of loving people. We're just sharing what we've
experienced. God overflows our cup with love and we simply pass along
some of the excess to others. We are not pacifists, but we know the
ideology behind things like terrorism will ultimately be defeated by
love that allows people to embrace a new truth or a new reality. We've
already experienced that transition when we got saved. Our opinions all
melted in the face of a personal experience with Jesus.
A Spirit of Self-Discipline -
Timidity is what causes us to shelve our dreams and postpone our goals.
A spirit of self-discipline is choosing to make a plan and implement it.
I keep a prayer diary and a list of goals for each of the major
categories of God's dealings... My relationship with the Lord, my
marriage, our ministry to Release Kings, our financial and business
endeavors, and our kids and grandkids. I hold all those things in prayer
and I discipline myself to have specific objectives for each. All the
answers to prayer go in my prayer diary along with the requests for the
next level of breakthrough. The Lord and I adjust the plan and goals
whenever necessary to keep it current. Here are a few personal samples
from my own list:
The Lord - I want to improve my
intercession and prayer by responding to the promptings of the Holy
Spirit. I want to be in-season and in-tune continually.
Marriage - My next goal is a new
ring for Sue. It's more spiritual than it sounds. Home improvements
and vacations with the kids are high on Sue's list. She started a
nursing business in 2008. Part of my job is to help make her dreams
come true. She often just needs the space and little encouragement.
Our ministry to Release Kings -
We have many goals in this area. One is to start a small group on a
monthly or quarterly basis that can serve as a pilot to encourage
and release Kings. I need that personally. Another goal is taking
our message to foreign nations.
Releasing
Kings is being translated into French and we are considering
going there as well as Africa and China when the time is right. A
third goal is to network with other individuals and organizations to
spread the message, multiply the finances, and do the ministry.
There are many other key people and ministries in this stream. We
want to help promote them into the next level of effectiveness.
Interviews on our web site are one means of doing that.
Finances and business - We're
sowing in investments continually to "live well on 10%" and create a
template for others to do the same... so we can all convert money
into ministry.
Hobbies and having fun - I'm
going to get a higher resolution pocket camera to take on pack trips
to the mountains to enlarge pictures of the scenery,
the horses, and the
friends. I just turned a montage of Glacier Peak in the Cascades
into a 2 X 6 foot picture that will go on our living room wall. It's
a reminder that I can load up a saddle horse, go to the mountains
and see some beautiful country; a huge, personal blessing that I
don't take for granted.
Kids and grandkids - I'm like a
bull dog believing for our four children and four grandchildren to
extend their faith to learn how to multiply finances and convert
money into ministry so they can have as much fun as Sue and I. I'm
contending in prayer for the fullness of their destiny in Christ and
watching for practical opportunities to open new doors for each of
them.
If you keep a prayer
diary and list of goals for a few years the progress is amazing. I use
an Excel file to keep a list of dreams for each of the above areas and
the goals that go with each dream. I like to leave some of the completed
goals listed as a reminder of God's faithfulness. My prayer diary is
just a handwritten notebook with dated entries. God really does exceed
our expectations.
Courage is
contagious. 2009 and beyond will turn into an ever increasing jailbreak
of Kings turning personal initiative into great exploits for God. Join
the party; burst the fear bubble.
