Giving Is Blessed
Sound Doctrine -
Last week we shared a great newsletter with a doctrinal emphasis (The
Harder I Try, The Worse It Gets). The more scripturally sound we
are, the more likely we'll have a favored relationship with Jesus and
inherit our land. I do think positive thinking and believing in yourself
helps. However, as Christians, we can be optimistic with a rational
basis. God is working on our behalf; toward Kingdom goals that are
bigger than ourselves.
This week I want
to introduce a story from
Paul Hunter
of some African widows in Naminya, Uganda that started a business.
Marketplace ministry is all about helping people connect with God so
they can learn to receive for themselves.
Here's
the story.
The points below are the
"story" behind the story. How do we get to a place of prosperity and
generosity? And, how do we help others get there.
The
Message - We've outlined our vision around three simple
steps; and summarized it in a
brochure. The first step is the message of the gospel. It includes
fulfilling your dreams and pursuing your heart's desire. It's fun to be
a Christian. We don't deny or ignore spiritual warfare or suffering. We
deal with them and go on to the frosting. We understand that Jesus
redemptive work isn't just about going to Heaven. We're building the
Kingdom here and now!
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was
rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his
poverty might become rich. 2 Cor 8:9 NIV
The
Money - Many Christians are a little embarrassed about
"making money." Kings understand that converting money to ministry is
how the Kingdom is built. Kings enjoy the process are candidates to hear
the Holy Spirit opening doors toward prosperity. They understand money
doesn't fall out of Heaven... Prosperity is the result of sowing into
business, investments, or vocations that will bring a return. Paul
called it "hard work."
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work
we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself
said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" Acts 20:35 NIV
The
Mission (Giving) - Our goal is making disciples; more
specifically Kings. It really is "blessed" to give. That's why it's nice
to have money to give. We're converting money into ministry.
One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly,
but comes to poverty. 25 A generous man will prosper; he who
refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Prov 11:24-25 NIV
The
Mission (Lending) - I'm coming to another realization. Giving
won't necessarily break poverty. In fact, giving alone, can create an
unhealthy dependency; a welfare mentality. Lending can help kings get
started and establish the discipline of financial responsibility. When
they learn to be good stewards and multiply finances for themselves they
are much more likely to become Kings and reproduce their own prosperity
and break the cycle of poverty.
Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts
his affairs with justice. Ps 112:5 NIV
Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts
his affairs with justice. Ps 112:5 NIV
Business plans and cash flow assessments in excel can be the most
spiritual tools we have to lift a brother or sister out of poverty.
Here's an example.

You're invited into the
vision to release Kings; communicate the message, make the money,
and do the mission.
-
The Message
- Our first goal is to get the Releasing Kings message into the
hands of the messengers that will carry it... do it, preach it,
teach it, example it.
-
The Money -
The second goal is to help Kings break out of poverty by networking
them with practical opportunities to prosper. We want to introduce
them to the right people, the right opportunity, and the right
financial approach.
-
The Mission
- Network Kings with opportunities to mix business and missions.
Accomplish the great commission through the marketplace.
