Kings and Pastors
One of the realities of being or becoming a
King in this hour is the pioneering nature of the movement.
It’s not really a new concept Biblically. But it is new for
Western Christianity. Even though about 80% of churched
Christians have a Kingly calling, we haven’t known much about
how to get out in the Kingdom and make it happen.
Much closer to home emotionally, there is
another phenomenon we need to admit. As a Pastor I was
committed to growing my church and looking for other priestly
ministries that would support my “church growth” vision. I
think pastors should do that. Most Kings have been left sitting
in the pews “unchosen.” There is a great deal of personal pain
that goes with feeling left out of what God is doing by your
pastor. The message Kings "hear" is you have no ministry
or your highest ministry goal is to be a home group leader (the
smallest common denominator of pastoral ministry).
Now think about it. Kings are called
to prosper, be creative, inventive, dynamic, aggressive, bold,
self-starters, etc. Kings are just not designed to sit
quietly in the pew... and I might add that although many are
excellent mentors, they aren't necessary good home group leaders
either.
You have been chosen
Kings haven’t been left out. You just
don’t share the priestly ministry of the Pastor. God has bigger
plans for you in the marketplace. Yes you have been rejected
from ministry inside the church – thank God! You weren’t
rejected by the pastor – God himself forbid that pastor from
choosing you. You’ve been chosen to do the work, not just
preach about it. We Kings have to reach down inside and let go
of the offence. Stop crying over spilled milk and look into the
desire of your heart. God wants to make your dream happen.
You’re important to God, worth fighting for, valued by the
Christian community… but called to the front lines of the
Kingdom.
Look at it from a military perspective.
It’s a slap in the face for an officer to be called out of
battle to be put in a training assignment. You’re called to the
fray. Priests have the training assignment covered. I’ve been
amazed to hear from a few Kingly types that have been blessed
financially and have used their freedom to put themselves into a
priestly preaching ministry.
We Kings need to find our hearts and
ministry in the Kingdom (outside the church). That doesn’t mean
we abandon the church. On the contrary, we actually become the
evangelistic answer the church has been looking for. “Go into
all the world” is an assignment for Kings! Get it? Kings are
the ones that go out from the temple like river and water every
dry place.
Pastors get hurt too
Let’s go a step farther. We need to see
how priestly and Kingly ministries are both a necessary part of
God’s plan (separate, but complementary). You see there are
many pastors hurting because of the frustration sown by Kings.
One of the Kings (with a business) in our church "felt rejected"
because I wouldn’t let him promote himself into the priesthood.
He became very subversive and spoke against me to anyone that
would listen. It was disheartening and painful. I might add
that we’re on the same page again now – but, he’s still not a
priest and never will be. He’s a King that is generous, has a
heart for mentoring young people, loves to witness and is called
to be blessed in business and influential in the community.
When God unveils the finished product any pastor would love to
have him in his church.
Love and respect your pastor for the
priestly ministry God has called him to. Realize he won’t
choose you to be part of his ministry. He may not presently
even understand the role of Kings in the marketplace. Expect a
few growing pains during this transition until Kings are
recognized and valued. In the mean time, be a King. Be
yourself, find your heart’s desire, prophecy your ministry into
reality, take your land, and love your pastor because we’re all
on the same team.
O ur
Assignment
We're in the
process of putting together a study guide that will include some
testimonies of kings. Their successes, failures, vision,
etc. If you have a story that would bless others, let us
know. We've got several done and several more planned. We'd love to interview and write up your story as
well. The goal is dozens.
