Where's my heart?
"Thanks John, I really enjoyed this months
newsletters, well done and well said. We have been pressed on every
side, at work, financially and in ministry. Yet we are rejoicing
and stepping up our plans to do more evangelistic crusades this year
than ever before." (Howard
Ferris).
Howard is my favorite Civil Engineering evangelist
and I feel just like that. In the midst of resistance, "we're stepping
up our plans for more." Today my heart is soaring because I sold a horse
yesterday and we get to release some Kings in Yakima this weekend. My
heart is dancing right now. The bills are paid and a plan for more is in
place.
The Initiating Event
- We often feel that our breakthrough is in God's hands and that
perseverance is the key to survival. Staying power is very important but
it's a little too passive. It's true that our breakthroughs require
God's intervention; power far beyond our natural abilities. But, we have
the privilege of opening the door for that to happen... we have the keys
of the Kingdom. Here's what initiative looks like and the jailbreak it
releases.
-
Moses got cornered, stretched his hand over the
Red Sea and God parted the waters; and closed them up again to
destroy an army (Ex 14)
-
Gideon reduced his army to 300 and "scared" his
enemies into self-destruction (Judges 7)
-
The disciples broke five loaves and two fish
and fed 5000 men and their families (Lu 9)
-
Peter preached a simple message and 3000 were
saved (Act 2)
And
what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon,
Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, 33 who
through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained
what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the
fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose
weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle
and routed foreign armies. Heb 11:32-34
When I'm Stuck?
- God is all powerful, but He's chosen to work with us. He's the bomb;
we're the fuse. He's the forest fire; we're the match. He's the healing;
we're the prayer. Faith always precipitates the release of God's power
through some relatively little thing we do. Now, when I'm pressed on
every side, it's natural to just curl up and hide. My "little
contribution" seems really big. Our breakthrough comes when are
emotionally ready to ask the Lord to show us the fuse. We're unsinkable.
When tossed overboard, we float. Deaths just precipitate resurrections.
Persecutions bring revivals. Adverse circumstances are just waiting to
be changed. How is all this possible? Jesus left us the keys to the
Kingdom. Heavens storehouse is stocked with our provision to be released
with prayer and a little "fuse lighting."
"I will
give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on
earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on
earth shall have been loosed in heaven." Matt 16:19-20 NASU
"Truly
I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in
heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in
heaven. Matt 18:18 NASU
"Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about
anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father
who is in heaven. 20 "For where two or three have gathered together
in My name, I am there in their midst." Matt 18:19-20 NASU
Are you facing resistance?
- Only if you're trying to do something (Hello). There's lots of
theology that traditionally paints a need for testing, trials and
tribulations as though we should endure them and try to enjoy them for
the wonderful maturity they bring. Those things do build character.
However, I like to suggest a faster way to character than the school of
hard knocks. Read your Bible and find a mentor who knows how to stage a
breakthrough - it's not that hard. God is not really testing us to teach
us how to enjoy defeat. He wants the breakthrough more than we do. The
reason we count it all joy when when we face trials is the
"breakthrough." Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before him (Heb
12:2). It's not about the trial; it's all about the breakthrough.
God doesn't take any pleasure in seeing us
immobilized in fear and unable to get on top of our problems. He dances
over breakthroughs too! The character that He's looking for is the
tenacity to stick a fork in your problem and say "it's finished." Light
the fuse and blow the doors off your jail. Said another way, pray,
expecting the Holy Spirit to show you what initiative to take that will
break the back of your resistance; then do it. And if it doesn't work
the first time, repeat the above two steps every day for seven times
seventy. Do not accept defeat or delay as though it was inspired by God.
Let your weakness be turned to strength. "Just say no" to condemnation.
Here's your assignment:
...conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was
promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the
flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was
turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed
foreign armies. Heb 11:32-34
If you have a friend that's stuck, become the
mentor that breathes new life into his or her heart. Get in the fray on
their behalf through intercession and prophetic encouragement. It feels
really good to have friends willing to enter the battle on behalf of
your dream. Forward the newsletter and ask the question, "What's your
dream and how can I help."
Life is an adventure. People are a blessing.
God is amazing. We're winning.

written to help us through the implementation of the message in
Releasing Kings. Right now it's in the editing process and it should
be available in a couple of months. We been doing modules from it in the
conferences with great impact.
