Recommended reading - I reread
Developing a Prosperous Soul, Vol 2 - a book Harold wrote in 1997
available through the link. He's also got another book coming out in
November entitled God Is A Capitalist. Both are easy reading and
very worthwhile.
To Him That Has
I want to Prosper - Here's why.
Although many Christians would never admit a desire to prosper
financially, our ministry and generosity are tied closely to our
checkbook. If you're broke there are some severe limitations on your
ministry. For Kings, "full time ministry" is the financial flexibility
and freedom to fulfill your calling.
The next thing we
notice is that God doesn't prosper everyone equally. He doesn't
necessarily bless according to need either. I believe he loves us all
equally in the sense of giving us the same opportunity to multiply our
talents. The fact remains that we don't respond equally. Some have a
prosperous mentality and naturally gravitate toward increase, generosity
and multiplication. Others have a natural orientation toward poverty;
money and opportunity tends to elude them. The good news is that poverty
can be reversed and prosperity can be increased. We want to use this
newsletter to summarize how and why.
The secret - is really only a secret
to those in poverty. How to prosper and receive the blessing of God is a
theme throughout the Bible and it's surprisingly simple. People with a
poverty mentality have a clear vision to experience breakthrough and
receive God's miraculous intervention. In attitude they often try to hit
a home run and buy the winning lottery ticket. They are willing to take
business risks (a good thing) but they usually lose because they bet on
long shots. That's the primary reason they are in poverty. Please hear
this carefully.
If you could
interview millionaires you would find a very consistent theme;
consistent work and wise decisions over a long time - often several
generations. Here's the secret; God blesses exactly in proportion to
what you have done with what you have. This may even seem unfair at
first because we often live in socialistic, welfare-oriented societies
where we tolerate a victim mentality.
For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more
abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even
that he hath. Matt 13:12 KJV
"'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten
talents. 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will
have abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be
taken from him. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into
the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
Matt 25:28-30 NIV
Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be
given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will
be taken from him." Luke 8:18 NIV
"Then he said to those standing by, 'Take his mina away from him and
give it to the one who has ten minas.' 25 "'Sir,' they said, 'he
already has ten!' 26 "He replied, 'I tell you that to everyone who
has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even
what he has will be taken away. Luke 19:24-26 NIV
So what should I do? - Instead of,
1) living to far in the future, 2) focusing on the envy of those more
prosperous, 3) waiting for a breakthrough, 4) or making hasty decisions
risking long shots, simply start multiplying the talent (money and
ministry) you already have. You won't be eligible for more until you can
increase what you already have. Now that usually translates to "work."
People with a poverty mentality quite frankly don't work as hard or as
wisely as those in prosperity. Listen to how clearly Paul and Solomon
spoke to this aspect of prosperity:
For even when we were with
you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall
he eat. 2 Thess 3:10 NKJV
Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. Prov
10:4-5
The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the
diligent are fully satisfied. Prov 13:4
The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to
poverty. Prov 21:5 NIV
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to
rest — 34 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity
like an armed man. Prov 24:33-34 NIV
Offerings and Wealth Transfer - Much
of what Christians are exposed to regarding finances is the weekly
exhortation built around the offering at church. Every money-related
verse in the Bible has been used to encourage giving. The most popular
(I've used them often myself) are:
Give, and it shall be given
unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and
running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same
measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke
6:38 KJV
A good man leaves an
inheritance for his children's children, but a sinner's wealth is
stored up for the righteous. Prov 13:22 NIV
The take home message
is that if I empty my pockets to put money in the offering, God will
miraculously intervene and multiply my finances. I simply want to
suggest that thought process is patently false and filled with poverty.
It simply makes God your lottery ticket and takes the focus off what
you're doing with the one talent you have. Waiting for God's
breakthrough put's us in a passive frame of mind or it causes us to make
unwise risks trying to hit a home run. The most pressing question God
wants answered is, "What are you doing with the "very little" that you
do have?"
And he said to him, 'Well
done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little,
have authority over ten cities.' Luke 19:17-18 NKJV
Do support your local
church, but don't put all of your "seed" in the offering. Learn to
multiply it first and give out of the increase. If you give away all
your money, you'll always be broke - Is that too hard to understand?
Enjoy the ride - There is no
shortcut to prosperity. People that do win the lottery usually lose it
in the end. It takes time and diligence to prosper God's way. You have
to enjoy your work and it has to line up with your heart's desires.
However, when you really get started multiplying what little you do
have, you'll be amazed how quickly you can make progress. God will add
to the talents that you have multiplied yourself and you will experience
the real secret of prosperity... "to him that has, shall more be given."
Start from where you're at... Now! Stop waiting for God, circumstances,
or some one else to hand you a breakthrough.

opportunities to prosper. We want to introduce them to the right people,
the right opportunity, and the right financial approach.
-
